Our goals are to be as eco-friendly as our animals. So we have gone solar. 20 solar panels or can you say photovoltaics (my new vocabulary word), have been installed on our well-positioned agricultural building that points perfectly south. The roof has the perfect pitch and we are currently generating 4.9 kW (normally). Unfortunately, we did have to cut down a few trees to get the full benefit of the sun. Silly me, I thought I had to plant one tree for every one I cut down. Not true! According to our friends at Sundance Power Systems, I must plant (7) trees for every one I cut down. We started out with paw-paws, fig, and cherry. Now, we are planting ginkgos because they are so primitive and pretty in the fall.
Let us know of your interest in sustainable energy. We plan to have a Solar-bration this Spring to educate and of course… any excuse for a party.
